Creative Friends Links

James with Banjo

James Gordon is one of our most creative friends. He use to be the song writer in residence for Basic Black on CBC radio and wrote a ton of funny songs about the guest Arthur Black interviewed on the show or the subject they were discussing. He has written and directed several brilliant plays and is by far the funniest man in show biz we know! He is an amazing songwriter and facilitates fabulous songwriting workshops with children, youth and companies. Be sure to visit his website

Mike Stevens and Banjo

Mike Stevens is World renowned harmonica player. He and Raymond McLain came to Fridas in July 08 and played an Old Timey Concert on the hill behind ARTSPRING our local Art Centre. It was a fantastic show and lots of CDs went out the door. Banjo enjoyed his own show with Mike!

Mike is also the founder of ArtsCan Circle a wonderful organization that sends artists and musical instruments into native communities to work with youth at risk. Mike and his volunteers have developed musical lending libraries, recording studios and many great friendships up in the native communities of Northern Canada. Visit www.artscancircle.ca to learn more and donate funds or instruments to this exceptional organization.

The Wailin Jennys

Wailin Jennys are a fabulous trio with the most incredible harmonies you will ever here. They stopped by Fridas on tour in 2008 and had a few days of well deserved rest. Banjo had a chance to sing a little tune with Ruth! Check out their latest CD a real Firecracker!

Banjo and Ruth
Tanis-Lucky Blue

Tannis Slimmon was our first house guest when we bought our house. We weren’t living it in yet, but Tannis and her Sister in Law Caroline sure enjoyed it. Tannis is an exquisite performer as many of our Salt Spring friends had the opportunity to witness. Tannis and Tracy celebrated their birthdays together September 2008 when Tannis came to check out all the renovations we have made. We had a wonderful visit with Tannis and she was our first Fridas Villa house concert performer! Catch a Tannis show and experience the magic for yourself or better yet, buy a CD online.

Noah Zacharin

Noah Zacharin will take you down a musical highway you won’t want to exit for some time. Likened to Bruce Cockburn, Ry Cooder and Bob Dylan he is as proficient at guitar playing as he is at songwriting and both are stellar. Roots, Blues and Jazz he covers them all graciously and with incredible style. Noah will be our second Fridas Villa house concert performer in late March. Stay tuned for details!
